(WAUKEGAN) New charges filed Wednesday allege Marni Yang purposely killed the unborn child of former Chicago Bear Shaun Gayle and Deerfield resident Rhoni Reuter when Reuter herself was shot to death.

A Lake County grand jury indicted the 41-year-old Yang Wednesday on charges of intentional homicide of an unborn child stemming from the Oct. 4, 2007 shooting of the 42-year-old Reuter, who was seven months pregnant when she was slain.

The grand jury also indicted Yang on nine counts of first-degree murder for Reuter’s death.

Yang was charged March 4 with murdering Reuter in what authorities allege was a “jealous rage” prompted by Reuter’s long-term relationship with Gayle, the father of her unborn daughter. Reuter already had named the baby Skylar Reyne, family members said.

Authorities allege Yang also had a sexual relationship with Gayle, though he has denied that, saying he and Yang were only friends and business associates.

Attacked in her Deerfield home, Reuter died after being shot seven times, including twice in the abdomen, authorities said.

If Yang is convicted of the intentional homicide of an unborn child charges, she faces a prison term of 25 years to natural life — the same penalty the first-degree murder charges carry.

Yang remains jailed without bond.
