CHICAGO (WBBM/AP) - Chicago and its suburbs have been home to some of the largest and fastest-growing areas of the country.
The Chicago metropolitan area increased by nearly 73,000 people from July 2007 to July 2008, making the population 9.6 million.
Chicago has the seventh-largest population increase in the country, according to the Census.
Cook County is the second-most populous county in the nation, with 5.3 million residents.
DuPage, Lake and Will -- are among the country's 100 largest.
Kendall County was the nation's fastest-growing county from April 2000 to July 2008, when it increased by nearly 90 percent.

-Chicago-Naperville-Joliet metropolitan area: 9,569,624 (9,496,853)

-DuPage County: 930,528 (926,228)
