Warmth Fun For Us, Not For Birds
Bernie Tafoya Reporting
|
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- The arrival of warmer weather in Chicago is a good thing but not always, especially as birds start their migration north. WBBM’s Bernie Tafoya reports.
The number is 888-FLINTCREEK
Some of the birds are flying from as far away as South America and while coming up along the Lake Michigan shoreline will slam into skyscrapers and wind up dead or injured on the ground below.
That’s why Bob O’Neill of the Grant Park Conservancy suggests you learn how to be a bird rescuer or at least know what to do in case you run across an injured bird downtown.
O'Neill says he's seen hundreds of fallen birds each year at the bases of downtown buildings. He calls it, "terrible".
O’Neill suggests you put injured birds in a brown paper bag and NOT feed them….and then call Flint Creek Rehab so the birds can be taken for treatment. The number is 888-FLINTCREEK.
