(WBBM) - Three of the towns that should be seeing fewer freight trains rolling through because more trains will be routed through other suburbs should also be getting quieter.
About 30 Canadian National freight trains a day roll through Berwyn, Riverside and North Riverside and even though some of those trains will be re-routed to other suburbs along the EJ&E tracks, Berwyn Mayor Michael O’Connor says Quiet zones will be set up in the three neighboring suburbs and paid for by Canadian National.
Mayor O’Connor says some engineers "hang on the horn for almost a mile", which he says is "pretty loud."
Mayor O’Connor says Berwyn, North Riverside and Riverside will either get medians to keep motorists from going around railroad gates or sets of four gates, for the same purpose allowing trains to roll through without having to blast their horns.
