CHICAGO (STNG) -- Mayor Daley is headed to the United Arab Emirates next week as part of what his office call a “city to city” exchange.
Daley will travel to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, according to a release from the mayor's office. The trip is being sponsored by World Business Chicago, a not-for-profit economic development corporation. Daley will be joined by a delegation \of local business leaders from public and private sectors.
The UAE is a federation which consists of seven emirates. The largest is Abu Dhabi, which contains the capital city, Abu Dhabi. The UAE is located on the Persian Gulf between Saudi Arabia and Oman, and its northern tip is across the gulf from Iran.
During a series of meetings and roundtable discussions with government officials and business leaders, the mayor will reinforce existing relationships and make a case for Chicago as a global city, investment location and strong business service provider, the release said. He will also attend a joint meeting with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs in Dubai.
Daley will share many of Chicago’s best practices including sustainability and education initiatives, youth work programs and professional service practices, the release said. He is also interested in expanding the Chicago Public Schools’ Arab Language Program.
Chicago has more than two dozen companies doing business in the UAE, the release said. Additionally, many Chicago- based architecture firms are working on projects in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
