Teacher Accused Of Sexual Assault Found Dead
|
BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. (STNG) -- A middle school teacher charged with the sexual assault of a student was found dead in his northwest suburban home Monday morning of an apparent suicide.
Ronald Vos, 53, a teacher at MacArthur Middle School in Prospect Heights, was charged over the weekend with the sexual assault of a student.
Vos allegedly sexually assaulted the juvenile at school and on three more occasions outside the school between September 2005 and March 2007, police said. Prospect Heights police were informed in September by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services about an allegation of sexual abuse at the school in September 2005.
An investigation of computer records indicated Vos and the juvenile agreed to trade sex for beer and cigarettes, police said.
He was arrested outside his Buffalo Grove home Saturday and charged with the criminal sexual assault of the former MacArthur student. Vos, a computer education teacher at the school, was suspended after the arrest.
About 5:45 a.m. Monday, Buffalo Grove police got a call that Vos's wife, who had not been living in the home since her husband's arrest, went to the home and found him hanging, dead from an apparent suicide.
She last talked to her husband about 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Buffalo Grove police Cmdr. Steve Husak said.
Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said Vos was dead at the scene. It appears to be a suicide, Husak said. Police are unsure if a suicide note was recovered, though paperwork near the body was collected.
An autopsy will be conducted Tuesday.
