A list has just been released of pardons and clemency requests that were denied by the administration of former President George Bush.
In response to inquiries, the Justice Department has provided a list of several high-profile people whose clemency petititions were expressly denied by President Bush.
Commutation petitions that were denied on Jan. 19th --- the day of his last clemency acts (the commuted sentences of 2 Border Patrol agents)
Former Congressman Randall "Duke" Cunningham, who is serving an 8-year prison sentence for corruption.
Former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards. According to Wiki, Bush41 supported a pardon for Edwards.
John Walker Lindh, the so-called American Taliban who is serving a 20-year sentence. His lawyers filed several clemency petitions. Interestingly, one of his lawyers, Tony West, has been tapped to run the Civil Division. His nomination announcement did not mention his representation of Lindh.
Leonard Peltier, convicted to killing two FBI agents in 1977 and serving life in prison.
"Junk Bond King" Michael Milken. He had also sought a pardon from President Clinton.
Former Congressman Mario Biaggi, convicted of corruption in 1987.
Denied on Dec. 23 -- Justin Volpe - former NYC cop convicted of brutally assaulting and sodomizing Abner Louima.
Commutations Bush left pending for President Obama:
Former Illinois Gov. George Ryan - serving a 6 year corruption sentence.
Media magnate Conrad Black, serving 87 months for racketeering and fraud charges from fleecing Hollinger International. Accused of "corporate kleptocracy."
Convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard.
"Telecom Cowboy" Bernie Ebbers, serving a 25-year sentence for the implosion of Worldcom. Reportedly drove his Mercedes to prison.
