CHICAGO (CBS) ― The Department of Defense says a 26-year-old soldier from Chicago has died following a bombing in Iraq.
Staff Sgt. Roberto Andrade Jr. died Sunday in Baghdad of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device struck his vehicle.
CBS 2 spoke to one of his relatives Wednesday night, who says the family was stunned by the news.
"I feel sorry for him and his family, and hopefully this war ends," said Oswald Andrade, second cousin.
The Defense Department said Wednesday that Andrade was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 66th Armor, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Hood, which is located in Fort Hood, Texas.
