Ice Cream Truck Driver Faces Prison For Exposing Self
(ST. CHARLES, Ill.) A west suburban man faces up to three years in prison for exposing himself while driving an ice cream truck in Sugar Grove.
Douglas Jones, 47, of Aurora, was convicted in Kane County Court on Tuesday of felony sexual exploitation of a child. Jones was a Presbyterian minister and member of the Kane County Regional Board of Education when he was charged in 2007.
According to prosecutors, Jones pulled his shorts up and exposed his penis and testicles as a 3-year-old boy and his father approached the truck at 2:40 p.m. in the 800 block of Meyers Road.
Sugar Grove police found Jones and his ice cream truck at a nearby pool, where he was arrested.
Prosecutors do not believe the boy saw anything, but the father reported Jones to police and testified at the trial.
A jury took less than two hours to convict Jones, who testified that he may have exposed himself but it was accidental, Asst. State’s Attorney Danielle Bechtold said.
Jones is eligible for upto three years in prison or could be sentenced to probation.
Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 25.
