Tips For Saving Money On Your Heating Bill

UN-CUT Tips On Saving Money
WBBM's Steve Miller Reports

CHICAGO (WBBM) -
As Chicago plunges into the extreme cold, you might be interested in some ways to save money on your heating bill.

The tips come from Peoples Gas, the company to whom you're writing those bigger checks, as long as the weather stays cold.

Spokeswoman Bonnie Johnson says you can do some things to help keep your gas bill more manageable.

"The most obvious thing and the first thing many people won't agree with, is to turn that thermostat down. Just by turning it down one degree, that can help you save.

"Close off those rooms. If you have extra rooms in your house that are not being used, close off those rooms and the vents to those rooms."

Johnson recommends running ceiling fans on slow - and in reverse - to keep the warm air circulating.
