Three Charged In Stabbing Of Officer



CHICAGO (STNG)  -- Three people have been charged in the Monday stabbing of a Chicago Police officer on the West Side. The officer, though stabbed in the neck with a knife, was treated at a local hospital and subsequently released.

About 6:15 p.m. Monday, police received a call for help related to a domestic disturbance in the 4600 block of West Monroe Street, News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.

As the officer attempted to take 20-year-old Harvey Bennett into custody, he allegedly stabbed the officer in the left side of the neck with a knife, Kubiak said.

The officer was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was treated for the stab wound and released.

Bennett, of the 4600 block of West Monroe, was charged with one count of attempted murder, Kubiak said.

Patricia Pike, 21, also of the 4600 block of West Monroe, was charged with one count of aggravated battery to a peace officer. Johnathan Elliott, 44, of the 11400 block of South Aberdeen, was also charged with one count of aggravated battery to a peace officer.

Kubiak said both Pike and Elliott allegedly tried to punch the officer.

Bennett was in custody at the Harrison District as of Tuesday morning.
