One Dead, 2 Children In Critical Condition After Fire

BROOKFIELD, Ill. (STNG) - Fire swept through a brick bungalow Thursday night in west suburban Brookfield, killing a grandfather and leaving his two small grandchildren injured, authorities said.

Henry Allison, 71, of 3526 Park Avenue, was injured in a house fire and pronounced dead at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood at 11:59 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for later Friday.

Two children, Lylian Robinson, 4 months, and Calvin Robinson, 4, were also taken to Loyola Medical Center in critical condition, said Anne Dillon, hospital spokeswoman.

About 6:30 p.m., Allison called 911 and pleaded for assistance at the home, Brookfield police Chief Steven Stelter said.

A fire official couldn’t be reached for comment about what firefighters found when they arrived, but neighbors described a scene of thick smoke pouring from the home.

Brookfield police Officer Jennifer Wiesman said the two-alarm fire was extinguished within an hour.

The three were the only ones in the home at the time of the blaze, according to police, who say a 10-year-old brother was down the street at a library and the children’s parents were away for a few hours.

Investigators from Brookfield police and fire departments, as well as the Arson Task Force, are probing the cause of the fire.
