Not Guilty Plea In CVS Store Kidnapping

CHICAGO (STNG)  -- A Northwest Side woman pleaded not guilty Monday to the kidnapping of a 3-year-old girl from a CVS pharmacy in the Avondale neighborhood last November.

Jeanette Roldan, 44, of the 3900 block of West Wellington Avenue, pleaded not guilty during an arraignment hearing to one count of aggravated kidnapping of a child under 13, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.

Sana Patel walked out of a CVS Pharmacy at 3311 N. Pulaski Rd. about 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 10. The girl had been playing inside by the doors while family members shopped. A security camera showed a woman talking with the girl, then leaving the store with her, police said.

Sana was safely found in an alley near North Kostner and West Wellington avenues about 9:20 p.m. after a call was received from a citizen, according to police.

After being found, she was taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital for observation, but had not been injured.

Cook County Judge Edward O'Brien set a Feb. 9 status hearing for Roldan, Conklin said.
