Jay Mariotti Headed To AOL Sports

CHICAGO (AP) - Former Chicago Sun-Times sports columnist Jay Mariotti now works for America Online's sports department.
AOL's sports Web site on Sunday advertised Mariotti, saying ``Coming Monday Read Jay Mariotti on AOLSports.'' Mariotti will be a national sports columnist.

Mariotti resigned from Chicago's second-largest daily newspaper in August after 17 years.

At the time, Mariotti said he decided to leave newspapers in favor of the Internet. He said newspapers are ``destined to die'' and, he argued, online reports are faster and more comprehensive.

Mariotti also is a regular panelist on the cable sports station ESPN.
