CHICAGO -- A house fire on the Far West Side was doused quickly, but left one paramedic and one resident injured early New Year's Day in the Austin community.
About 1:45 a.m., crews were on the scene of a working fire in a single-story home at 4854 W. Monroe St., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joseph Roccasalva said.
The fire was extinguished quickly, but a paramedic injured his leg while carrying a 47-year-old man to his ambulance, Roccasalva said.
The man had been complaining of weakness and is in Loretto Hospital in "good" condition. The paramedic is in West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, also in "good " condition, according to Roccasalva.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
