Asst. Principal Charged With Public Indecency

CHICAGO (STNG) -- Two men, one who is a high school assistant principal, were arrested at a lakefront park for engaging in a public sex act Monday evening.

Police had previously said one of the men was an actor with the Blue Man Group, but a spokesman for the group said Tuesday morning the man has never been associated with the troupe.

Darren Stephens, 45, of the 1400 block of West Leland Avenue and Michael Pressler, 48, of the 1700 block of North Halsted Street were arrested without incident about 5:45 p.m. in the 4500 block of North Simonds Drive, police said.

Pressler, who is the assistant principal at Maine East High School in northwest suburban Park Ridge, and Stephens were both charged with public indecency, a misdemeanor, after they were found allegedly engaged in a sex act on Chicago Park District property, police said.

Contrary to a previous report, Stephens "is not and never was" a member of the Blue Man Group, according to Chicago Blue Man Group spokesman Nick Harkin.

The high school does have an assistant principal named Michael Pressler, a high school spokeswoman said. The two men are slated to appear in Misdemeanor Court on Feb. 6.

Blew Man
It would be ironic if he waived his right to remain silent...

WJM
Are all such minor sexual crimes reported or is this "news worthy" because it involves the actor? The assitant principal? A minor offense now magnified into public humiliation. Someone should throw a flag for piling on.

I wonder if Tobias Funke was in town this weekend?
12/30/2008 10:13AM

12/30/2008 10:32AM
Frustrated
Blueballed?
12/30/2008 10:39AM
Uh... Begging for Stalkers?
Is there some reason that they've listed the addresses of everyone involved? And basically hired an air traffic controller to point everyone to the scheduled hearing?
12/30/2008 10:45AM
well
maybe he had blue balls!
12/30/2008 10:56AM
Darren Stephens
Samantha is really pissed off.
12/30/2008 10:58AM
Is this really news?
Hell- the public, after many years, is still paying big bucks to go to a show to watch 3 blue guys spit marshmellows at each other. Now that's news!
12/30/2008 11:03AM
Oh Come ON!!
Does anybody really believe that this guy will be able to continue working in a high school environment after this? Another wonderful example of how irresponsible behavior on the part of media can destroy lives. Give the guy his day in court before you go slamming the door shut on someones life. Where is the "victim" in this "crime?" How about our crime fighting force concentrating on the hundreds of killings that plagued our city this year? Or is it not news worthy anymore when some teenage kid gets gun downed for no reason. Lets instead make a big stink about two guys in a park. Go figure!
12/30/2008 11:10AM
Very good point
" Lets instead make a big stink about two guys in a park. " That's a great idea... LETS!!!!
12/30/2008 11:13AM
Dumb Suckers
shoulda got a room! they have doors that lock, right?
12/30/2008 11:31AM
Yellow Journalism
WBBM and the rest the cheap shot news outlets reporting on this crap have really lowered their standards once again- as if they could get any lower!!
12/30/2008 11:36AM
It's like stealing!
They got caught in a public locale. Otherwise it's no big deal. They should have gotten a room or parked in some back alley, hopped in the backseat to release their "tension?". These aren't teenager we're talking about. The Admin's got more to losethan the BlueGuy.
12/30/2008 11:39AM
Save Ferris
Man, they sure left their cheese out in the wind
12/30/2008 11:45AM
Teacher
I had Mr.Pressler as a teacher in highschool. He is a wonderful teacher that cares about what he does. I hope this doesn't ruin his career.
12/30/2008 11:46AM
Great Story
Great Story! I am glad it was posted. Bad behavior should be reported if we want to stop it, and sex in a park is bad behavior. They should have been in a private room not a public park. They are got what they deserve!
12/30/2008 11:52AM
What about our Kids
It seems that two men in a park at 5:45 doing nasty stuff should get them arrested. How many children were potentially in the park and could see what these sick characters were doing. If you are a teacher or asst principle you are held to higher standards and are molding the next generations ideals. Is this the type of individiual you want interacting with your kids?
12/30/2008 12:01PM
What if?
Would this be criminal if they were a man and a woman?
12/30/2008 12:05PM
Dumb Question!
Yes it would be criminal. Get out of the cave!
12/30/2008 12:26PM
teacher in trouble
Teacher: He may very well lose his job, not because what he did was so bad, but beecause if the parents in Maine township ask for his head, they'll get it. Many may still have the mistaken notion that all gay men are pedophiles.
12/30/2008 12:33PM
Group?
More like a Blue Man Grope!
12/30/2008 12:37PM
What About Our Kids?
Hey What About Our Kids: There is worse stuff on television. Dont let your kids watch the news and for heaven's sake keep them away from Two And A Half Men!! And while you're at it- dont even think of letting them walk down the sidewalks of Boys Town in the Summer--- they might see something really bad! Oh and the Gay Pride Parade.... oh my gosh my golly!! Just put patches over the kids eyes and put them in a bubble. I hate it when we throw the "kids" in to make a point of something that has no merit. Hey- why dont you go down to the South east side of Chicago and take a walk down a sidewalk at 5:45 PM on ANY night and tell me what it feels like to be staring down the barrel of a shotgun held by a Kid. Poor defenseless kids!!! Stop it!!!
12/30/2008 12:39PM
T Funke
I've gotten my share of "bluepes" if you will.
12/30/2008 1:00PM
he lied
I have been a member of Blue man for years and i have never heard of the guy.
12/30/2008 1:02PM
Blue Man Grou Issues Correction
Blue Man Group Issues Correction Published reports today inaccurately identified a man named Darren Stephens who was arrested in Chicago as a "Blue Man Group actor." No individual by the name of Darren Stephens has ever been employed by Blue Man Group as a performer or in any other capacity.

Get a GRIP!!!!!
In reference to the idiot that said this was a great story, you obviously don't have a life, if you consider this to be a great story. Through your own words, if you want a news story on all bad behavior, let's start by writing about you! The only reason someone would wnat to read about two men in a park making out are perverts and this means you. All perverts should turn their selves in and be banned from all parks. This story was not great the only reason why it made this page was because of the two high profile individuals invovled,if you can call being a blue man high profile, and the asst. Teacher. This stuff happens every day like clock work. NOBODY! wants to read about two grown men freaking in a park or abody for that matter. The police and the News Reporters need to find something a little more thought provoking to investigate and write about. Get a life!
12/30/2008 1:24PM
COLD
Um, hello it's freakin' cold by the lake this time of year for that sort of thing :-)
12/30/2008 2:03PM
Don't leave your uncle T-bag hangin.
Did it cost $50, or was that just LA prices?
12/30/2008 2:33PM
Re: What About Our Kids?
Don't have kids yet, but plan to one day, and yes, I also plan to avoid exposing them to every one of the disgusting examples of "entertainment" you mention. My fiance and I avoid them at all costs. Why should we subject ourselves to such mental pollution?
12/30/2008 2:55PM
SAMANTHA
THERE IS A GOOD POINT IT THERE AS TO *BE-WHICH* ONE IS IN MORE TROUBLE
12/30/2008 3:22PM
REALLY?!?!.. is this 2009, or 1889?
"freakazoids", "sick characters" REALLY? Wow - we have come a long way in gay rights, haven't we?
12/30/2008 10:57PM
Slow News Day
What else happened in the city these days which may have been more news worthy than two guys doing naughty things out in the cold at the lakefront? Are there so few stories left in the naked city that this is a story sent along with the Blago pick for senate? Surely there must be other stories far more important than two guys having a beach party. And it's all because someone said suspect #2 was in Blueman Group. Without that link, you got no story. Come to think of it, you got no story anyway, the guy ain't from Blueman Group. Next thrilling case if you please.
12/30/2008 11:01PM
Slow News Day 2
But I will say the two of 'em are dumber than dumb, when the little guy does your thinking for ya'........... So it's a story about a couple of dumb guys. Quick, call the wire services!!!
12/31/2008 10:02AM
We Haven't
..Come a Long Way, Baby. That is how it should be. Gay Rights are being forced down our throats (pun) when they have no place in a right-thinking society. Feel free to be Gay, but expect to be marginalized for it. Don't demand people love you for being unusual. That isn't human nature.
12/31/2008 12:05PM
Welcome to 1885
It's scary to live in what you think is a sophisticated large city and see close minded comments like several above. Wait??? Who did we just elect as president?? I bet you are all against that too. Disgusting.
12/31/2008 5:16PM
Whole lotta BS
There's a whole lotta BS in these comments. Yes, people do this sort of thing all of the time. No, they shouldn't do it in a park. If they feel they must, perhaps the hours 2am-5am would have been a better choice. It is sad that people feel the need to show hate and homophobia here. You all wouldn't be so damn mean if it were a man and a woman, even if one of them had a job involving kids. Whoever said that he will be assumed a pedophile is right! I grew up in Park Ridge. Even people that knew Mike P. are questioning that. STUPID! He is a homosexual. Get over it and focus on the matter at hand - an important school official committed public indecency. And for the last time - THE OTHER GUY WASN'T A BLUE MAN. He lied.
01/01/2009 2:21PM
Whatever happened?
Whatever happened to majority rule? Saying you are against gay rights doesn't make you a homophobe. Neither does saying you are against illegal immigrants from Mexico being in the United States make you a racist. The above COULD be true, but isn't predicated by wrote. It could simply mean you are a patriot who believes PC for the minority view has run amok in the U.S.. When did it become a social crime for a person to support the opinion of the majority? People are afraid to stand up to the hate-mongering finger-pointers of the minority viewpoint. Feel free to be different. America is wonderful because it allows that. But don't try to force me to smile and say you are "okay" BECAUSE of your difference. Having said all of that, these two gay men commited a crime which they will be prosecuted for. They will not be prosecuted as "gays" or "liars". They will be prosecuted as two people who broke a decency law in broad daylight in a public park. As they should be. It has nothing to do with being gay. It has to do with being stupid and risking their social standings and even jobs for personal pleasure. They took the risk, knowing the penalties would be severe and npw they have to face ALL of the penalties, legal and social. That is as it should be. Whatever happened to the power of "The Scarlet Letter"? People feel they can do anything they want to now and still insist on being loved by their disgusted communities. Shame is a powerful tool and it should have a place in our society. People need to grow up. It is okay to disagree with minority viewpoints. It is okay to punish idiots. That is all.
