Man Allegedly Pushes Cop Down Stairs

CHICAGO (STNG) - A west suburban Stickney man was charged with allegedly pushing a Chicago Police detective down a flight of stairs Saturday at a North Side police building.

Ignazio Burton, 40, of the 4100 block of Maple Ave. in Stickney, was charged Saturday at 10:30 p.m. with aggravated battery to a police officer for the Saturday afternoon incident, which happened at the Belmont District police headquarters, 2452 W. Belmont Ave., police said.

At 1:44 p.m., Belmont Area detectives were interviewing Burton in connection with an August murder when a police detective attempted to escort him down a flight of stairs and back into a jail cell, police said.

Burton allegedly pushed the detective down about 10 stairs, causing the detective to suffer a cut to the face and neck pain. The detective was treated and released from an unidentified hospital.

Court information was not immediately available on the aggravated battery to a police officer charge.

While Burton was not charged in connection with the murder, when police checked Burton’s name and fingerprints they found he had four outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Two were theft warrants, one was a violation of an order of protection and the fourth was Cook County Sheriff’s warrant for obstructing a court order. All four warrants originated in Cook County.
