The Peterson Engagement: She Proposed To Him

COMMENT ON THIS STORY

CHICAGO (WBBM)
- Drew Peterson's lawyer says Peterson has not yet filed for divorce from his missing wife Stacy even though he is now engaged to a 23-year-old woman.

WBBM's Steve Miller reports:

Peterson, who was named more than a year ago as a suspect in his wife Stacy's disappearance, is engaged to be married.

Not only that, but Newsradio 780 is told by a source close to Peterson's family that the 23-year-old woman proposed to Peterson and that she made the proposal a couple of times before Peterson said yes.

The Chicago Sun-Times, citing a police source, identifies the woman as Christina Raines. Her father insists his daughter is engaged to Peterson.

Peterson's lawyer says Peterson is engaged but denies he's engaged to Christina Raines.

Christina Raines also denied that she's the one, the Sun-Times reported.

54-year-old Drew Peterson is still married to Stacy, who would be 24 now.

Peterson consulted with a divorce attorney several weeks ago, but his criminal attorney says no divorce papers have been filed.

By law, one spouse may divorce another and claim desertion if the other spouse goes missing for one year.

Stacy Peterson disappeared October 28 of last year.

A spokeswoman for Stacy's family, Pamela Bosco, says she wonders about the whole engagement story - first reported by the author of a book on Peterson.

Bosco says Peterson himself may have put the story out there to sell books.

"Drew always has a motive," Bosco said.
