CHICAGO - - The man shot by an off-duty Chicago police officer on the Northwest Side more than one month ago died Thursday.
According to police, an off-duty officer was "confronted by an armed offender" in the 5100 block of North Bernard Street on Nov. 2. The officer fired his weapon, striking Miguel Alfaro, 21, who was taken to an area hospital.
The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. The shot mean was reportedly armed with a knife, which was recovered at the scene.
Alfaro died Thursday at 10:28 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according tothe Cook County Medical Examiner. He died from multiple gunshot wounds. An autopsy is scheduled.
Independent Police Review Authority spokesman Mark Payne said the incident remains under investigation.
