Census Jobs Fair Leaves Dozens In The Cold

(WBBM) - A suburban job fair for employment opportunities with the U.S. Census Bureau left dozens out in the cold.

The room where the job recruiting session was held in Elk Grove Village was filled to capacity long before it was scheduled to start. Dozens who were looking for work were turned away.

The Census Bureau is hiring 700,000 people nationwide for the 2010 census, positions that include managers, clerks and census takers at a rate of $13 to $17 an hour.

That was enough to bring out hundreds of people who have been recently laid off or out of work for sometime.

One woman tells the Daily Herald, she’s been unemployed for about a year.

She was turned away from the recruiting session and told to come back to another session later in the week.

More information is available at www.2010censusjobs.gov or by calling 866-861-2010.
