Aurora Man Charged, Throwing Girlfriend Off Bridge

(ST. CHARLES, Ill.) A west suburban man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly throwing his girlfriend into the Fox River during a weekend dispute.

Jonathan L. Zinke, 34, of the 300 block of Oak Avenue in Aurora is being held in Kane County Jail on $750,000 bond after a Tuesday morning hearing on charges that also include aggravated battery, domestic battery and aggravated assault.

According to the Kane County State's Attorney's office, Zinke and the woman he reportedly had dated since July were walking across the Galena Boulevard bridge around 3:30 a.m.

Saturday after an argument at a party. The woman told Zinke she would leave him. Zinke then threw her over the bridge railing, prosecutors said.

The woman was taken to Provena Mercy Center, but was not injured. A witness reported seeing her standing in the water between the Galena and Downer Place bridges.

Zinke was also charged with assault after he struggled with an Aurora police officer.
