High School Senior's Design New City Sticker

CHICAGO (STNG)  -- City of Chicago vehicle stickers are going to the dogs. Or rather one dog, carrying the city's flag against a backdrop of the Stars and Stripes, and the city skyline.

That's the winning entry in the annual vehicle sticker design contest announced by the City Clerk's office Tuesday.

Denise Ferguson, a senior at Corliss High School, designed the winning entry for the 2009-10 Vehicle Sticker Art Design Contest, which was co-sponsored by the Department of Animal Care and Control, and the clerk's office.

More than 350 students from 43 high schools participated by submitting artwork that incorporated the theme “Dog Friendly Chicago” into their designs. Chicago high school students were invited to submit artwork highlighting efforts to make Chicago a dog-friendly city.

The public cast nearly 25,000 votes online at the city clerk's Web site. A panel of independent professionals, including artists, civic leaders and dog groups reviewed entries and voted for the top ten finalists.

Ferguson will receive a $1,000 savings bond and her design will appear on approximately 1.3 million windshields during the 2009-10 vehicle sticker sales year, beginning June 2009.

Brittany Byrne, a senior at Resurrection High, is the second-place winner and will receive a $500 savings bond. Third-place winner Ricardo Silva, a senior at John Hancock High, will receive a $250 savings bond.
