Hubert (Pit) Martin, a star center for the Blackhawks during a 17-season career in the NHL, has died after his snowmobile plunged into an icy lake in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada.
Martin, 64, and a friend were on separate snowmobiles. His companion was unable to save Martin, according to Canadian wire service reports, and a helicopter brought in to airlift Martin’s companion and another man who came to their rescue saw no sign of Martin.
As a Hawk from 1967-78 Martin had 243 goals and 384 assists in 740 games. He also spent time with the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks, compiling career totals of 324 goals, 485 assists and 809 points the 1,101 games.
