ELMHURST--A Hanover Park man has been charged with leaving the scene of a hit-and-run crash that left a man dead along the Eisenhower Expressway near west suburban Elmhurst, police said.
Jose Lopez was on the right shoulder along the eastbound lanes of I-290 near St. Charles Road after his semi truck broke down when he was struck by a pick-up truck about 12:30 p.m., Illinois State Police Elgin District Sgt. Amy Pelletier.
Lopez was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood where he was pronounced dead at 12:51 p.m., Pelletier said.
The pick-up truck attempted to drive off after striking Lopez but was stopped by a state trooper
Matthew Coyle, 32, of Hanover Park was charged with leaving a scene of a crash involving death, a felony charge, according to ISP Elgin District Master Sgt. Ted Vernon.
Vernon said further charges for Coyle are possible.Illinois State Police are investigating.
