Angry Man Charged for Striking CTA Driver, Officers



CHICAGO -- The man who allegedly struck six officers after he became "rambunctious" on a CTA bus Thursday evening wiss charged with six counts of aggravated battery, police said.

He was on a CTA bus in the 4500 block of West Montrose Avenue when he struck the bus driver in the head and several officers responded In the process of being taken into custody, the man hit and kicked five officers, police said.

He did not seriously injure any of the officers, police said.

“He was highly intoxicated,” according to police, who said the man was in his early 20s.

He was taken into custody, continued to be unruly and struck officers in the lockup. Police were initially investigating the possibility the man reportedly pulled a knife on the officers, but a source said the man did not posses a weapon.

Afterwards, he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital after complaining of being in pain. He will be taken back into police custody. At the hospital the man continued to give staff a hard time and, to calm the man down, he was sedated, police said.

The man was charged with six counts of aggravated battery to an office, a felony, and is scheduled for a bond hearing.
