Restaurant Prepares For Vegan Thanksgiving

CHICAGO (WBBM)  -- One Chicago restaurant is preparing for its 26th Annual Vegan Thanksgiving.

The Chicago Diner at 3411 North Halsted Street has sold out three seating's.  Owner Mickey Hornick says there may be a few last minute cancellations.

The vegetarian restaurant offers a fairly traditional Thanksgiving dinner, minus the turkey.  In its place a Roasted Veggie Turkey made from tofu.

Hornick says they mix the tofu with typical turkey spices, roll it out, wrap it around an herb stuffing and roast.

There's also a holiday raw plate, featuring  a nut-based loaf with wild mushroom gravy in place of turkey.

Hornick says their annual Vegan Thanksgiving normally sells out, but this year it sold out earlier than ever and set a new record for take out orders.

He says about half their clientele is NOT hard core vegetarian and says people just want to eat healthy foods.
