Doctors: Wisconsin Has Drinking Problem

A number of Wisconsin doctors have gotten together to try to do something about what they consider an "epidemic" in the state, drinking.

WBBM's Mike Krauser Reports.

Were you aware you could take your kids to a bar in Wisconsin and buy them a drink? As long as the bartender doesn't object, there's no law against it.

Doctor Lee Faucher, director of trauma at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, says they want to change laws and educate the public.

Faucher, director of trauma at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, says penalties are worse for beating your dog than they are for being in an alcohol-related crash with injuries.

It takes five DU-I's for a felony charge. Police sobriety checkpoints are against the law.

The public education campaign comes as Wisconsin again leads the nation in binge drinking...as it has every year since the government started keeping tabs more than a decade ago.

Shut up doc...
The Wisconsin bar and restaurant industry better band together or they will be out of business. It's time to get the government and these dirtball doctors that want to dictate to you how to live your life off everyones back.

Really
They want to change laws and educate the public? Yes, I see how this will work. Look how well it works with illicit drug usage. This is why I don't make the big bucks. I can't think like a doctor / director. It must be a skill set that only the well to do possess.

DUI only problem
I used to live in WI - and loved it! I still love visiting and go back whenever I can. The only troubling thing about this story and drinking in general (in WI or elsewhere) is the prevalence of drunk driving. Otherwise live it up!

The Doctors are right
Alcohol rules in WI and we pay a heavy price for it, but since it is usually one person at a time, few people are willing to do anything about it. We need to increase the alcohol tax to help pay the cost in life an limb.
