Axelrod Officially Named To Obama White House

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Chicago political consultant David Axelrod has officially been named senior adviser to President-elect Barack Obama.

Axelrod was Obama's chief strategist for the presidential campaign, led his 2004 U.S. Senate campaign and worked as a media consultant on Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley's campaigns.

A University of Chicago graduate, Axelrod started his career at the Chicago Tribune covering state and city hall politics.

In 1984 he started a small political consulting firm and as since worked with Democrats including Sen. Hillary Clinton, who is rumored to be considering joining Obama's cabinet as Secretary of State, and Rep. Rahm Emanuel, who was named Obama's chief of staff.
