Nov. 17: 11 Weeks by The Numbers

Through 11 weeks of the NFL season, the Bears are the No. 22-ranked offense and the No. 19-rated defense.

They’ve dropped to No. 21 in points allowed and No. 7 in third down defense after leading the league for several weeks.

They dropped frm No. 4 to No. 6 against the run after giving up more than 200 against the Packers last Sunday.

Two alarming stats: The Bears remain No. 30 in passing yards allowed and also are No. 30 in the league in sacks per pass play.

Kyle Orton is the NFL’s No. 12-rated QB. Matt Forte’ is the NFL’s No. 10-rated rusher, leads all NFL backs in receptions with 43,  is No. 4 in total yards from scrimmage and also No. 4 in the NFL with 51 first downs

Sunday's opponent, the St. Louis Rams are 2-8 for a reason.

They are the league’s No. 2-ranked offense, and No. 30-ranked defense. In terms of numbers, the best the Rams can offer is yards-per-carry, where they ranked No. 19.

However, the Rams will be without star running back Steven Jackson and left tackle Orlando Pace.  Starting quarterback Marc Bulger is the league’s No. 28-rated quarterback.

Defensively, the Rams are last in the league in points allowed already giving up nearly 400. They are also last in the league in yards-per-pass attempt and they are giving up more than 158 yards per game rushing.

Rams defensive ends Leonard Little (4.5), rookie Chris Long (4.0), and James Hall (3.5), and Victor Adeyjanju (2)  have combined for 14 of the teams' 20 sacks.  In comparison, Bears defensive ends have combined for 5.5 sacks this season.

The best thing about the Rams is punter Donnie Jones, who leads the NFL in gross average at 49.5. At the same time, the coverage unit has given up the second-most punt return yards in the league, 465.
