Madigan In Running For Empty Senate Seat?

CHICAGO (WBBM)  -- Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, after a press conference on mortgage rescue fraud Tuesday, was asked about speculation that she is in the running to replace Barak Obama in the U.S. Senate.

WBBM's Debra Dale Reports.

Madigan says she doesn't think she is in the running. She cited her strained relationship with Governor Blagojevich, who is responsible for naming Obama's replacement. And Madigan says she is considering a run for Governor in 2010.

She refused to speculate on whether the governor might appoint her to the senate to get her out of the way for his possible reelection run.

Among those who've been lobbying for the senate seat: retiring Illinois Senate President Emil Jones, Congressmen Luis Gutierrez and Danny Davis.

Others who've been mentioned by the media as possible replacements: Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. and Jan Schakowsky, and state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias. He's also a potential Democratic challenger to a Blagojevich re-election bid.

govenor
Miss Lisa Madigan is still not going to become governor of the state of Ill, I don't care what good seat she holds in the US Sen, no to her Miss Lisa Madigan becoming govenor of this state.

Ho and Change
Would be in keeping with the series: an unqualified Attorney General appointed by an unqualified Governor to replace an unqualified Senator who's becoming an unqualified President. If you like Daley, Stroger and Blago you'll love Missy Madigan.
