Reportedly Intoxicated Driver Sends Himself, 2 Others to Hospital
|
WEST CHICAGO (STNG) -- A reportedly intoxicated driver sent himself and two other West Chicago men he had been out drinking with to the hospital after he crashed his SUV early Monday in the western suburb. All three have since been released from the hospital.
The 22-year-old West Chicago man was driving a Ford Explorer northbound on Fabian Parkway at 2:13 a.m. when he drove off the road just south of Route 38, and rolled the SUV over and off the road, according to West Chicago police officer Mike Smurawski.
Police knew he was intoxicated because they could smell it, and all the men admitted they had been out drinking before the accident, said Smurawski
The driver suffered a broken leg or foot, said Smurawski, and was taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. The other two men, one 30 and one 23, suffered cuts and bruises, and were treated and released at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, he said.
The driver was arrested for DUI, and received citations for no insurance, no license, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, Smurawski said.
The SUV sustained “pretty good damage” and was probably totaled, he said.
The speed limit on the road is 50 mph, said Smurawski, and it was unknown how fast they were going. Open alcohol was not found in the car, he added, and driving conditions were normal.
