Missing Nursing Home Resident Found Dead

(ROBBINS, Ill.) A senior citizen who went missing from a southwest suburban nursing home two weeks ago was discovered dead just 20 feet from the scene of his disappearance Thursday, authorities said.

Arthur Vaughn, 72, was found face down with his nose and mouth submerged in a wooded marsh area behind Robbins Supportive Living, 13820 South Utica in Robbins.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:42 p.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office, which was not yet releasing his identity.

An autopsy Friday determined Vaughn drowned. However, heart disease and chronic drug addiction were listed as secondary factors in his death, the medical examiner’s office said. Vaughn's death was ruled an accident.

Vaughn, a recovering heroin addict who had a number of serious health problems, was last seen by a nurse on Oct. 22, authorities said.

His body was fully clothed and there were no signs of violence or struggle when he was found, authorities said.
