GRUNDY COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM) The Grundy County state's attorney has upgraded charges facing a Streator woman in the fatal accident Thursday night that killed a Dwight woman and her two children.
WBBM's Dave Berner reports.
Grundy County State's Attorney Sheldon Sobol said four counts of aggravated DUI were filed late Friday afternoon against 43-year-old Ann Marie Getz.
Bond for Getz has been set at $1 million.
Grundy County Sheriff Terry Marketti said that Getz allegedly blew through a stop sign on Gardner Road at Illinois 47 and broadsided the car driven by 27-year-old Amanda Jahn.
Marketti said Getz "should not have been behind the wheel of that vehicle in the condition she is in."
Jahn's car rolled into the adjacent farm field, killing her instantly. Her three-year-old son Ryan and 11-month-old daughter Kaitlyn were pronounced dead a short time later at Morris Hospital.
Sheriff Terry Marketti says it's not the first time Getz has been arrested for driving drunk.
"She has a history of alcohol violations," he said.
Both drivers appeared to be homebound, Getz traveling west on Gardner Road, and Jahn southbound on Illinois 47.
Getz remains at Morris Hospital with serious injuries, under police guard.
Marketti said that Jahn's husband, Josh, is a Dwight volunteer firefighter. The couple had no other children..
