Voter Registration Expected To Set New Record In Suburban Cook County

CHICAGO (WBBM)  -- If you haven't registered to vote in the upcoming election, its too late now, the registration grace period ended yesterday.  But the numbers that DID register point to a huge voter turnout.

Yesterday was the end of Illinois' grace period for registration.to register to vote in the November election. And all-time high voter registration numbers are reported throughout the Chicago area.  (Numbers, by county are below).

Cook County Clerk David Orr tells Newsradio 780 that all the registrations have yet to be tallied, but so far there are more than 1,430,000 registered voters in Cook County.  The record is 1.4 million.  Orr says, including the city of Chicago, there will be 2.8 million people in Cook County registered to vote for the November election.

And Orr says he expects a big turnout at the polls, citing the number of those registered, the record breaking number of early voters, enthusiasm, and youth involvement.

Other Counties:

Lake, IL set a record with more than 404,000 registrations counted so far. Previous record 387,053 set in April 2005

DuPage, IL has set a record with 546,631 registrations counted so far.

McHenry, IL has set a record with 199,387 registrations counted so far.

Will, IL has 374, 407 registrations counted so far.

Kane, IL has set a record with 260,723 registrations counted so far.
