BOWMAN NEEDS SURGERY: After collecting a touchdown off a botched punt return on special teams and picking off Minnesota's Gus Frerortte to end the game, rookie corner Zackary Bowman needs surgery to repair a biceps injury.
All of that in his first NFL game after a mideek promotion off the practice squad. The Alaska product and fifth-round pick from Nebraska was shoved into the spotlight due to some significant attrition in the secondary.
Bowman came up big, but his return to the field is uncertain.
SECONDARY ISSUES: Cornerbacks Charles Tillman (shoulder), Nathan Vasher (wrist), Marcus Hamilton (toe/heel), and Danieal Manning (hamstring), Cory Graham (head), can use the one-week schedule break to mend.
This Bears secondary is Black and Blue.
Safety Kevin Payne was awarded 15 tackles after coaches review, along with one sack and an interception. He leads the defense in tackles ahead of Brian Urlacher. It was another big game for Graham, who collected 11 tackles, including nine solo giving him a three-week streak of double-digit tackles.
SURPRISE! The Bears are the NFL's No. 3 scoring team fueled by a developing offense led by quarterback Kyle Orton and six return touchdowns in seven games.
Only Drew Brees of the Saints has thrown more passes than Orton who now ranks 13th in quarterback rating at 91.1.
