CHICAGO -- The parents of a woman killed when the driver for a VH1 reality show apparently fell asleep and slammed his truck into a car on a southern Illinois interstate have filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
Kevin and Brenda Davis filed suit Friday in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of their 19-year-old daughter Kevetta Davis against Viacom, VH1, 51 Minds Entertainment and the driver of the truck, Dennis Hernandez.
On Sept. 26, Hernandez was driving a box truck and hauling sound equipment for the “Rock of Love Bus” production south on Interstate 57 in West Frankfort when he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, crossed over the median and struck a car in which Kevetta was a passenger, the suit said. The driver of the car, another 19-year-old woman, was also killed.
The suit claims Hernandez operated his truck in a negligent manner; caused a collision with another vehicle; failed to reduce speed to avoid a collision; failed to yield the right of way to traffic in the opposite direction; operated his truck without a valid driver’s license, among other accusations.
The suit seeks damages including loss of society, consortium, and financial support, as well as more than $50,000.
