WBBM’s Bernie Tafoya reports.

The woman was talking to her boyfriend on a cell phone as she entered her apartment in the 1300 block of East Hyde Park Boulevard when a man “came in behind her and grabbed her” about 10 p.m., according to a police source. The man implied he had a knife and allegedly told the woman he was going to kill her, but never showed the weapon.

The on-duty security guard thought they were together and the attacker walked the woman through the building, past the security desk and out the back door to an alley where he assaulted her, according to a source.

The attacker fled with the woman’s purse, keys and driver’s license. After the attack, she  told the guard what happened. The victim was taken to University of Chicago Hospitals.

The attacker is described as a 32- to 35-years-old black man of average height and build. He has a medium complexion and was wearing a blue sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Video surveillance captured images of the suspect. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating the attack as an aggravated criminal sexual assault.
