VALPARAISO-- Daniel Thomas, the Gary man who confined an ex-girlfriend in her apartment along with her child and goddaughter, then stole her 1997 GMC Jimmy, was sentenced to time served and probation.
Of the 12 charges against Thomas, 21, 10 were dropped.
He pleaded guilty to theft and intimidation for the June 20 event in exchange for probation when he was sentenced.
Those charges pertain to the woman's goddaughter, whom he threatened in his girlfriend's Valparaiso home, where he was keeping them hostage. He also took both of their cell phones.
The girlfriend has gone through domestic violence classes, and those charges have been dropped, according to records.
However, a no-contact order remains against Thomas, Judge pro-tem Gary Germann said.
Court records show Thomas forced his way into the apartment after the girlfriend ordered him out earlier. He confined and threatened the people there and pushed some.
The felony charges dropped were two counts of criminal confinement, battery to someone under 14 years old, residential entry, three counts of theft, auto theft and intimidation. Misdemeanor battery and interfering with reporting of a crime were also dropped.
