March Route and Street Closures



CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio 780)  -- On Monday, May 1st at approximately 10:00 a.m. the Immigrant Rights March will begin with participants assembling at Union Park, 1501 West Randolph Street.

MARCH ROUTE:

  • Eastbound on Randolph to Des Plaines Street;
  • Southbound on Des Plaines Street to Jackson;
  • Eastbound on Monroe Drive/Jackson Boulevard simultaneously to Columbus Drive;
  • Proceed South to Grant Park’s Hutchinson Field at Balbo.


STREET CLOSURES:

Grant Park Area Closures:

  • Columbus Drive from Randolph to Roosevelt
    (No turns off Lake Shore Drive from Monroe to Balbo & Jackson)
  • Michigan Avenue from Jackson to Balbo, Monroe & Congress
    (If the march moves to Monroe, Michigan closure will extend north to Monroe)


Loop Reroutes:

Northbound Michigan Avenue traffic will be rerouted west at Congress Parkway; southbound traffic will be rerouted west at Adams or Madison, depending on the march route.

The following streets will remain open: Randolph, Roosevelt, Lake Shore Drive and Damen.

A public safety tent will be set up at Lake Shore Drive and Balbo to provide information and first aid. Lost children and the elderly may also be located at the tent site.

Public transportation is strongly encouraged. The CTA will have additional buses operating to accommodate customers.
