UPDATE: Autopsy Shows Bones Found On South Side Human, Death Ruled Homicide

CHICAGO -- An autopsy Sunday determined some of the bones found on the South Side Friday were human and ruled the  death a homicide.

Two sets of bones were found Friday near East 110th Street and South Stony Island Avenue, said the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

A Saturday autopsy on the first set of bones determined they were not human. However, a Sunday autopsy revealed the second set of bones are human remains and the person died of a gunshot wound to the head. The death was ruled a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said.

Although the bones were found in Chicago, Palatine police are investigating in connection with a missing person case from “over two years ago,” authorities said.

“This missing person, from another jurisdiction, is now believed to be a homicide victim,” Palatine police said in a Friday release. “The investigation, while ongoing for the last seven months, has recently accelerated with information as to a possible location of the victim’s remains.”
