'Macho' Men Fight In Road After 'Road Rage' In Bridgeview

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (STNG) - After driving about a mile while cutting one another off and making rude gestures, two Bridgeview men decided to take their argument out of their cars Wednesday.

"The cars were stopped. They're all macho," Bridgeview police Detective Tom Sparrow said. "Unfortunately, road rage is real."

Their display of machismo ended in 13 staples for one man and battery charges for the other after he stabbed the other driver, Sparrow said.

The two men stopped just west of 71st Street and Harlem Avenue on Wednesday night and confronted one another. Standing between the two vehicles, the men began to argue, then fight.

"Punches were thrown. One person fell to the ground," Sparrow said. "He had a pocket knife in his pocket. He slashed the other guy in the stomach."

Police arrested George Forest, 62, of 7101 W. Hartford Street, Bridgeview, about 10 p.m. Wednesday and charged him with battery.

The milelong argument started in Summit at 63rd Street and Harlem Avenue, police said.

The men started to cut one another off about 65th Street and Harlem Avenue before stopping at 71st and Harlem Avenue.

After he was stabbed, the 35-year-old man left the scene unaware he had been wounded, police said.

"He was pumped up on adrenaline," Sparrow said.

He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and received 13 staples to his stomach. He was released the same night.

Forest, who had cuts on his face from the fight and a cut on his hand from his own knife, also was treated and released at Christ Medical Center, police said.

Forest is expected in court April 20, police said.
