FBI: Reward For Arrest Of 'TCF Bandit'

CHICAGO (STNG)  -- The FBI is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of a man suspected of robbing eight TCF Bank branches on the Northwest Side and in the western suburbs.

If you recognize the man or have information about the robberies call the Chicago FBI office at (312) 421-6700.

The robberies date back to February 2007, and include three strikes at the same Franklin Park branch, according to a release from the FBI.

In the most recent theft on April 8, the TCF branch at 2128 N. Mannheim Rd. in Westchester was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money. As he has in previous robberies, the robber entered the bank and approached a teller, slipping her a note announcing a robbery and demanding money from her drawer.

He claims to be armed and threatens the teller with harm if his demands are not met, but no weapon has been displayed and no injuries reported in any of the robberies.

Other branches robbed include 10203 West Grand Ave. in Franklin Park on Feb. 4t July 18 and Nov. 29, 2007; 6430 W. Irving Park Rd. in Chicago on Feb. 10, 2007; 4734 N. Cumberland on Dec. 20, 2007; 4411 N. Cumberland in Norridge on Feb. 5, 2008;  and 507 E. Woodlawn in LaGrange on March 13, 2008.

Given that all of these thefts targeted TCF Bank branches, the suspect has been dubbed the “TCF Bandit."

Witnesses describe as a white male, 35-40, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-10 with a large build. He has worn a baseball style cap or ski hat and sunglasses during each robbery.

Anyone recognizing the man or having information about the robberies should call the Chicago FBI office at (312) 421-6700.
