Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (WBBM/STNG)  -- A man and his wife were injured when a small plane made an emergency landing near the Bolingbrook Clow International Airport in the southwestern suburbs Thursday.

The couple apparently had breakfast at the restaurant at Clow Airport, 130 S. Clow International Parkway, before they took off in the small plane southbound, according to airport manager Joe DePaulo.

It seems the plane lost power and the pilot tried to turn around and return to the airport for an emergency landing but was too low to the ground, he said.

He landed the plane, but his wing may have hit a tree or pole, spun around and  come to rest near the intersection of Lily Cache Lane and Weber Road, DePaulo said.

No cars were struck in the crash, and the two people aboard the plane "walked away." They were later taken to an area hospital.

“It looks like he (the pilot) did a good job,” DePaulo said, noting there have been no similar crashes in the past 10 years.

According to the FAA, both people aboard the small Mooney M20 plane were injured.

The plane, built in 1965, is owned by B. Thomas of Morris, an FAA release said. The extent of the damage is unknown, but the plane did land upright.

Northbound Weber Road was closed Thursday morning from Lily Cache to Veterans as the FAA and emergency officials investigate.
