On 'At Issue': 6th Cong. Candidate Sees Dem Growth In DuPage

CHICAGO (WBBM) - The Democrat trying to unseat west suburban Repubilcan Congressman Peter Roskam believes the numbers are in her favor this year.

Former Army Colonel Jill Morgenthaler is the guest on this week’s edition of “At Issue” with WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

DuPage traditionally is GOP territory.

But Morgenthaler says there are more Democrats in DuPage County and the part of Cook that's included in the 6th Congressional District these days. She believes the candidacy of Presidential hopeful Barack Obama will bring more of them to the polls this November.

The one-time state Homeland Security Advisor thinks that gives her the advantage over incumbent Republican Peter Roskam, who was narrowly elected to that seat two years ago.

She says more Democrats than Republicans voted in the primary election this past spring, for the first time ever. And, she believes issues like the economy, energy and the War in Iraq will draw voters to her grassroots campaign.

She suggests Roskam, "went Washington" when he was elected to Congress. Roskam would argue otherwise, of course.

Jill Morgenthaler is the guest on WBBM’s “AT Issue” this week. You can hear more of her comments Sunday at 9:30 p.m.
