A New Lenox man was fatally shot Sunday following an argument at a business.
The shooting happened at 6:13 p.m. a “small business” in an “small industrial complex” at 1022 S. Cedar Road in an unincorporated area just south of New Lenox, said Will County spokesman Pat Barry.
“An argument ensued between two males and one male was asked to leave,” Barry said. “He apparently leaves and comes back with a gun and shoots the other individual in the chest.”
The victim was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, where he was pronounced dead, Barry said. The Will County Coroner’s office is in charge of the body.
The shooter left the business and a witness called 911 with a description of his pickup truck, Barry said.
New Lenox police saw the pickup truck going north on Cedar Road near Route 30 and a chase ensued. Police stopped the vehicle at Cedar and Francis roads, Barry said. Charges are pending.
Will County Sheriff’s police are conducting an ongoing investigation.
•AN ALTERCATION on a South Side street early Sunday which may have been gang-related ended in the fatal shooting of Odero Hillard, 17.
The incident happened about 12:30 a.m. on the 7100 block of South Paulina Street, according to police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. Hillard gotten into an altercation with another man, who took out a handgun and shot him in the face before running off.
The Cook County Medical Examiner identified Hillard, who lived at 5424 S. Marshfield Ave. Hillard was dead on the scene, Greer said.
The shooting may be gang-related, police said. They have no suspects.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating. •A 20-YEAR-OLD MAN is critically wounded after a shooting in the Back of the Yards neighborhood early Sunday.
The shooting happened about 12:20 a.m. on the 4700 block of South Loomis Blvd., according to police News Affairs.
The victim was standing at that location when an unidentified male got out of a vehicle and opened fire, striking the 20-year-old multiple times, police said.
The victim is in John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.
The shooting is believed to be gang-related. Police have no suspects. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
•TWO MEN WERE WOUNDED, one critically, during a drive-by shooting in the South Side's Marquette Park neighborhood Sunday afternoon.
Two men were standing in the 6300 block of South Rockwell Street about 2 p.m., when shots were fired from a passing vehicle, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
One of the men is in “critical” at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and the other I in Holy Cross Hospital in “:fair” condition, Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight said.
A vehicle was spotted fleeing the scene, Mirabelli said.
•DEMARIO TATE is charged with first degree murder in the fatal stabbing of an an acquaintance during an alcohol-fueled argument in the South Side's Woodlawn neighborhood on Aug. 28.
Anthony Webb, 38, began arguing with Tate about 3 a.m. outside at 6616 S. Evans Ave. Tate allegedly stabbed him three times with a knife, killing him, according to a police source.
Webb, of 7126 S. Wood St., was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn said the Cook County Medical Examiner.
On Sept. 2, Tate, 21, was arrested in connection with Webb's death, police say. A motive has yet to be established.
•MICHAEL LOWE, 23, was shot and killed Friday night as he rode his bicycle down the street from his Gary home, police and relatives said. Lowe, of 213 Taft St., was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:08 p.m., the Lake County (Ind.) coroner's office said.
Tabitha Isabell said her cousin, whom she described as a “giving and caring man, is the victim of a drive-by shooting.
"He was just another young brother who died of a violent crime," Isabell said, holding back tears. She said the shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m.
Lowe's mother, Kim Champion, said her son died in her arms.
•A JUVENILE IS CHARGED with first degree murder in the shooting of 17-year-old Cory L. Hatter, Friday evening in the South Side’s Englewood neighborhood.
The shooting happened in the 1500 block of West 69th St., police said. Hatter, of 7006 S. Throop St., was pronounced dead on the scene, with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner.
The alleged shooter was charged in the slaying late Saturday, according to police News Affairs.
•FIVE MORE MEN WERE MURDERED on the South Side between Friday morning and early Saturday.
Shavel Monegan, 29, of 6936 S. Indiana Ave., was shot at 7042 S. Michigan Ave. and was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County at 2:47 a.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner. A Saturday autopsy determined Monegan died of multiple gunshot wounds and the death is ruled a homicide.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired and found Monegan in the street about 1 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Ricky Grant, 36, of 6936 S. Maplewood Ave., was shot at 2520 W. 63rd St. and was pronounced dead at 9:33 p.m. Friday at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. A Saturday autopsy determined Grant died of multiple gunshot wounds and his death is ruled a homicide, by the medical examiner.
Grant was in a van when an unidentified person approached on foot and fired multiple shots into the van about 9 p.m. Friday, police said. The gunman ran away.
The shooting is believed to be gang-related, police said. They have no suspects.
Mark Mitchell, 23, of 4665 W. Monroe St., was shot at 13098 S. Drexel Ave., and was pronounced dead at 8:55 p.m. Friday at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. A Saturday autopsy determined Mitchell died of a gunshot wound to the back and the death is ruled a homicide, by the medical examiner.
Police responding to a shots fired call found Mitchell dead in a parking lot at the Chicago Housing Authority’s Altgeld-Murray Homes about 8 p.m. Friday, police said.
Dexter Baylock, 31, of 7221 S. Hermitage Ave., was shot at 1515 W. 79th St. and was pronounced dead at 3:38 p.m. Friday at Christ Hospital. A Saturday autopsy determined Baylock died of multiple gunshot wounds and the death is ruled a homicide, the medical examiner said.
A man shot Baylock about 2:45 p.m. Friday during an argument, police said, police said. The shooter ran off.
Andrew Mitchell III, 48, of 10753 S. Peoria St. was shot at 9831 S. Genoa Ave., and was dead on the scene, the medical examiner’s office said. A Saturday autopsy determined Mitchell died of a gunshot wound to the neck and the death is ruled a homicide.
Police responding to a report of a shooting found Mitchell on the sidewalk about 6 a.m. Friday, police said.
Nobody is in custody for any of the shootings.
