Zambrano Has Shot For Tendonitis, No Serious Injury Detected
CHICAGO (AP) -- Chicago Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano has some inflammation and right rotator cuff tendonitis.
An MRI confirmed that Thursday, and Zambrano received a shot of inflammatory medication and hopes to return to the rotation next week.
General manager Jim Hendry says the plan is for Zambrano to start throwing again when the team begins a series in St. Louis on September 10. He'll then hopefully make a start against Houston at Minute Maid Park in the following series.
Zambrano had to leave his start Tuesday night against the Astros at Wrigley Field after five innings, saying he didn't feel well. He was examined Wednesday by the team's orthopedist and then had the MRI on Thursday. He will miss his scheduled start Sunday in Cincinnati.
Zambrano is 13-5 this season.
