Suspect Photos Released In Berwyn Ave. Robbery

CHICAGO (STNG) - Chicago police have issued an alert to business owners and residents of the North Side Edgewater area following an armed robbery at a store last Wednesday.

According to the alert, issued by Belmont Area detectives, a man entered a store on the 1100 block of West Berwyn Avenue in the early afternoon last Wednesday , Aug. 13, brandishing a handgun. He threatened the store clerk, before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money. He then fled on foot through a parking lot before heading west on Berwyn. The robbery occurred just steps away from the CTA Berwyn Red Line station.

The robber is described as a black male, about 30 years old, 6-feet to 6-foot-3-inches tall, between 160 to 180 pounds, with long black hair, braided in the back.

He was wearing a brown baseball cap, with an unknown logo in the front, dark sunglasses and dark clothing. He also was carrying a dark-colored backpack.

Detectives are advising business owners in the area to let others know about the robbery and to make sure their surveillance equipment is working. Anyone who has information on the suspect or the robbery is also asked to call Belmont Area detectives, (312) 744-8263.
