BROADVIEW, Ill. (CBS 2) -- CBS 2 News has learned that the spotlight has Ezell in trouble with the law. Suzanne Le Mignot reports that Ezell now has a court date of her own.
“Ten years later, almost to the day. It’s amazing,” said Broadview police Detective Michael Kosik. He is talking about the Ezell’s arrest.
“You can run, but you can never hide totally,” Kosik said.
On March 6, 1996, Ezell, then known by her maiden name, Evelyn Boiselle, was placed under arrest after a Broadview police sergeant on patrol conducted a routine check of her license plate.
The sergeant found that her plates had been suspended because she did not have insurance on her car. He also found out that Ezell was not only driving with no proof of insurance, and not for the first time, but she was also driving on a suspended license.
“She was released on a (recognizance) bond, a signature bond, and failed to appear in court,” Kosik said, “so the judge issued a warrant.”
Ezell now has a different last name because she got married. While Ezell was serving on the Ryan jury, federal authorities started to put together pieces of the puzzle. They contacted Broadview police to tell them that the woman they arrested a decade ago had changed her name.
On March 29, two days after she was dismissed from the jury, officers brought Ezell into custody.
“She admitted it was her that had the warrant for her arrest, and she came with us peacefully and went through the booking,” Kosik said.
Ezell went to court on Wednesday. She will be back before a judge in a month. Meanwhile, in yet another development Friday afternoon, Ryan’s attorneys asked the court for permission to interview Ezell and another juror about potential juror misconduct that happened during the trial.
