Death Of Baby Delivered In Car Ruled Homicide

CHICAGO (STNG) - A baby boy died after his mother reportedly delivered him herself in a car Sunday morning on the Far South Side.

Baby boy Johnson was found unresponsive in the back seat of a vehicle at 708 W. 103rd St., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:20 a.m.

An autopsy Sunday revealed the boy died from asphyxia, the medical examiner's office said. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Police responded to the 103rd Street address about 5:15 a.m., according to a Calumet Area police sergeant.

The woman delivered the baby in a car, according to police, who noted she did not give herself an abortion, as was initially believed. The woman was then hospitalized in an undisclosed condition at Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
