Naperville man faces arraignment in drug caseNaperville Man Faces Arraignment In Possibly Compromised Drug Case

WHEATON-- Michael Vilim, 49, is scheduled for arraignment Monday on charges of theft that stem from his time as an options trader while working from his Naperville home.
The alleged theft occurred just weeks before his September 2006 arrest following an undercover drug sting in which Vilim reportedly sold nearly three kilograms of cocaine to undercover agents. One agent was having an affair with Vilim's wife, according to court documents.
Vilim, 49, of 816 Royal St. George Drive, is charged with two counts of theft by deception for allegedly taking $25,000 from a client "under the false pretense of making an investment," according to court records.
Although the charges were filed in March 2007, a DuPage County grand jury only returned the two-count indictment earlier this month. Until now, the case has been on hold while Vilim faced felony drug charges in Will County.
Vilim was arrested Sept. 25, 2006, in Bolingbrook after undercover Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad agents arranged to purchase 2.7 kilograms of cocaine from him. The drugs had an estimated street value of $1 million.
His attorneys maintain Vilim had the drugs because he was working as a confidential informant for MANS.
But because the narcotics officer who issued Vilim his undercover name -- George Saint -- was having an affair with Vilim's wife, they say the case against the Naperville man is tainted.
In the motion to dismiss the five-count Will County indictment against Vilim, his attorneys say that and other information was not provided to them despite the prosecution having rested in discovery nearly a year ago.
Vilim is expected to appear in Will County Circuit Court in Joliet later this month for the continued hearing on the motion, where his wife is expected to take the stand to testify as to her relationship with the MANS officer.
